Amazing Gluten / Dairy / Sugar Free White Cake (Not Vegan)

A while back I was on a super crazy elimination / rotation diet. I pretty much had to throw out everything I normally ate, and replace it with… well… stuff I never ate.

My birthday was coming around, and every year my mother bakes me a cake. So this last year she knew of my diet challenges and said as long as I buy it, she’ll bake it.

So I went to several stores, and couldn’t find any that would work. Why?

Because my diet at that time was to eliminate wheat, corn, tapioca, dairy, chocolate, and more.

As if the dairy / wheat / chocolate wasn’t enough of a triple-whammy, tapioca is the most common gluten free ingredient. So common, it was in every single pre-made gluten-free cake mix at every store I visited.

Stumped, I decided to do a little research and create my own recipe. I grabbed a few ideas, then modified them even further, and came out with something that was really damn tasty… which was a miracle given I don’t normally bake, and I had never baked gluten free before.

Since this recipe is for a white cake, and dairy free, I substituted coconut oil in for all the butter. Turns out it tasted really good, even for people who are not fans of coconut!

Without further ado, here’s the recipe. It calls for all-purpose flour, so below is the special mixture I use:

2 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup sorghum flour
1 1/4 cup millet flour
1/2 cup arrowroot flour
1 cup sweet rice flour
2 scant tsp. xanthan gum

The actual final ingredients are:

White Cake Recipe
1/2 cup coconut flour
2 3/4 all-purpose flour (see above)
1 2/3 xylitol (non GMO – substitute for sugar)
1 TBSP baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup coconut oil (substitute for salted butter)
1/2 cup vegetable oil (I used sunflower)
8 egg whites (substitute more oil to make it vegan)
1 1/4 cup vanilla unsweetened hemp milk (I used Living Harvest)
2 tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. Grease & flour two 8-inch cake pans (or a 9×13 like I used)
  3. Mix flours, xylitol, baking powder, and salt on low for 1 minute
  4. Add butter and oil. Mix for another minute until mixed.
  5. Add egg whites one at a time, beating well after each one.
  6. Add hemp milk and vanilla a little at a time.
  7. To give it the right texture, throw it against the wall. (just kidding – wanted to make sure you’re actually following directions!)
  8. Beat on high for 2 minutes – the batter should become thick and fluffy
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pans. Bake for about 25 minutes.
  10. Check every 5 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Once it does that, you’re done.
  11. Cool completely before frosting.

That’s it! Everybody who tasted it enjoyed it, and one friend who is an avid gluten free baker / eater demanded I give her this recipe. Well, even though it’s about half a year late… she fished her wish in time for the holidays. :)

Also, the all-purpose flour above is great for other baking needs… cookies, brownies, whatever!

See, yesterday I was at a spiritual workshop and one of my teachers spoke briefly about the pineal gland, it's relationship to meditation, and how it is our gateway into higher consciousness.

He also shared that the pineal gland has significant symbology and is named after the pine comb. In fact, the largest statute in the world of a pine comb resides in the "Court of the Cone" inside Vatican City.

Interesting, huh?

As is true with many synchronicities in my life, I feel this information must have been Divinely timed because I had already planned to share this guest message with you from Amish Shah about the power of our pineal gland. :)

"The Power of Your Pineal Gland"

Did you know that the very center of your brain is home to a raisin-sized gland that just might be the key to the Universe?

Your pineal gland is a tiny organ (yep, about the size of a raisin) located at the very center of your cranium. Despite its small size, the role it plays in your spiritual evolution is more important than any other single part of your body.

Want proof? Consider this: Your pineal receives more blood flow per cubic area than any other gland in your body. In other words, compared to all your other organs – including your lungs, your heart and your brain – this tiny little gland gets the highest concentration of energy.

I like to call the pineal gland "The Insomniac's Problem Child." It is super-sensitive to light. In fact, it's the key player in your sleep and waking cycles. Here's why: when light strikes the retina of your eyes, it travels through a tiny nerve system and into the gland. When the lights go off (like at night) it sends a signal to the pineal to begin secreting melatonin, which activates your nervous system to go into sleep mode.

Of course, that's when everything is working right…

When your pineal gland is compromised, it doesn't necessarily work when you need it to. This is why I call it the insomniac's 'problem child'. Did you know that today, more than 30% of the population in the US suffers from insomnia? And while stress plays a major role here, we can't ignore the fact that a compromised pineal gland (which most Americans have, as I'll share later) doesn't produce melatonin the way it's supposed to.

On a more spiritually inclined note, in the ancient Vedic energy system of the chakras, the pineal gland is referred to as 'Ajna' or '3rd Eye' chakra. This is because the ancients knew that, in fact, the pineal gland functions very much like an eye – an inner eye.

Modern studies reveal that the gland's watery interior contains rods and cones – just like those found in the retina of your eyes! That's right, your '3rd eye' has a structure remarkably similar to your two physical ones. This is why when you visualize something strongly enough, you can literally see it "in your mind's eye."

With these proven properties: high blood flow, a connection to your sleep cycles, and retinal-like rods and cones, the pineal gland obviously plays an important role in your overall well-being. Unfortunately for most of us, this gland is atrophied, dormant and calcified to the point of uselessness.

Why is this?

Research reveals another fascinating tidbit about your pineal gland: it secretes a substance called Dimethyltryptamine (DMT). DMT is a hallucinatory substance that is also found in the South American shamanic brew called Ayahuasca.

The interesting thing about DMT is that it induces experiences that can take you well beyond common states of awareness. In fact, it can unleash your dormant 'super powers' and enable you to access a higher consciousness.

One definition describes the effects of DMT this way: "Profound time dilation, time travel, journeys to paranormal realms, encounters with spiritual beings or other mystical / trans-dimensional modalities."

In other words, your pineal is, in part anyway, designed for trans-dimensional access. But when it's calcified, it keeps you literally 'locked in' to this 3rd dimensional reality. You are literally blocked from your 'super powers' and potential as a higher-conscious being.

For most of us, our pineal becomes dormant early in life. This is due to a number of factors, but it's primarily caused by toxins, which calcify the liquid within the gland. In fact, medical science refers to the pineal as the 'atrophied' 3rd eye because by the time you are 12 years old, it is already calcified and hardened. By the time you are an adult? It's atrophied entirely!

The biggest calcification culprit is the toxic chemical fluoride, added to drinking water and toothpaste in many parts of the United States. Heavily processed foods, carbonated drinks and a lack of natural sunlight are also to blame.

Fortunately it is possible to re-awaken your pineal, and when you do, you'll have greater access to information and insight beyond your five physical senses. An awakened pineal will also help you accelerate learning, enhance your creativity, grow in wisdom, develop your innate psychic healing abilities and even experience states of bliss.

The pineal glands been called the 'Seat of the Soul', 'Gateway to the Universe', the 'Mind's Eye' or 'Doorway to Higher Realms.' You could even argue that it's the gateway that literally lets you 'see' into time and space in a non-linear way. Whatever you call it, the pineal is the key that unlocks the door between your normal, waking state and, well, the entire universe.

But here's the deal… like parachutes and minds, your pineal gland only works if it's 'open'.

Re-awakening your pineal takes commitment and a great deal of work. The benefits though, far outweigh the effort it takes to get you there. Here are five quick and easy ways you can begin to decalcify and re-awaken your true power source, your divine connection, your 3rd eye pineal gland:

  1. Get more direct sunlight
  2. Eliminate or minimize processed foods from your diet
  3. Decrease your processed sugar intake
  4. Use fluoride-free toothpaste and drink non-fluoridated water
  5. Reduce your carbonated drink intake

Finally and most importantly: if you truly want to wake-up your pineal gland and activate your true power, you must commit yourself to a meditation practice. Even more powerful is one that uses a sacred symbol to focus your intent.

One of the most powerful sacred symbols of all – and an ideal symbol for pineal activation – is the Sri Yantra. Yogis and master manifestors since before recorded history have used this ancient symbol in order to achieve the highest states of consciousness of all!

When you follow these guidelines, then project a powerful intention to awaken your pineal gland through specific types of meditative practice, you'll begin to connect to higher states of consciousness – and your 'super powers' – with greater consistency and ease.

Book Review: The 7 Day Back Pain Cure by Jesse Cannone

 The 7 Day Back Pain Cure

If you or somebody you know has back pain, this is an extremely important book to read. Jesse expertly shares why conventional medicine, surgeries, and medications, are generally ineffective at relieving back and neck pain. He also explains why many unconventional methods, such as accupunture, massage therapy, and chiropracty are equally as ineffective for long-term results when used alone.

Continuing on, if conventional medicine doesn’t have the answers, and neither do most alternative therapies, then what actually works? Simply put, Jesse shows how almost all back pain is the result of one of three things: Excess, deficiency, or stagnation. He also explains how these can appear in many different aspects of our lives, ranging from physical posture and repetitive activities, to diet and even the way that we think.

Jesse uses a great metaphor: If you have a leak in the roof, the first thing you do is get a bucket to catch the water. The problem is, most approaches to fixing back pain try to just keep replacing the bucket when it gets full, instead of trying to find the true source of the pain and plug the hold in the roof.

On that note, Jesse shares that back pain falls into two categories: neurological and muscular. A big challenge is that most people are not trained to differentiate the -source- of those kinds of pains, and as a result, people with back pain keep trying new and different approaches with minimal long-lasting relief. What works to resolve muscular pain may be the exact opposite of what’s needed to help with neurological pain, so often times people chase the wrong solutions and sometimes even end up with more pain than before they sought treatment.

In fact, Jesse even goes on to say that to truly experience long-lasting and significant relief from back pain problems, the back is actually the -last- place that people should be looking…

and after reading his book, I believe him.

Jesse writes everything in such simple terms and illustrates is points with stories and metaphors we all can relate to. After reading this book you’ll wonder why anybody even goes to doctors to try and fix their back pain. The book is aptly titled because once you understand the true causes of your back pain, whether it be mental or physical, it won’t take long to experience significant.

Lastly, one thing I appreciate about this book is that Jesse makes it a point to discuss how several different approaches such as EFT / Tapping, hypnosis, visualization, reiki, and rolfing, can be integrated with chiropracty, massage therapy, and accupuncture, can all work together with his “Muscle Balance Therapy™” approach.

My Brother Died From Cancer – 10 Years Ago On This Day

IMPORTANT… If you know somebody who has cancer, had cancer, or if you have cancer, please read this entire message. There are some important resources (and several links) I want to share with you in addition to my own story…

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the day my older brother died from pancreatic cancer. Throughout this entire year I have been more aware of this than normal. Michael was 34 when he died, and he had a wife and two young children… one of whom was a 4 year old boy at the time.

In a few weeks I will turn 34. I have a 4 year old son.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this year has been a continually humble reminder to me of the preciousness of life.

Michael was a kind, loving, compassionate and strong brother. Out of high school he went into the US Marine Reserves so that he’d have something great to put on his resume. It worked and he quickly started working his way up successfully within the corporate world just like my father did, and just like I eventually did.

Michael had a wonderful sense of humor, always playful, and found balance between his quieter side and his love of social interactions. When I was younger, Michael was both a brother, a friend, and sometimes like a second father. As he got older, Michael was more like a friend, an inspiration, and an example of the kind of person I aspired to become.

Given his phenomenal health, the cancer was a shock to our entire family. “Fortunately,” his health qualified him for the most aggressive chemotherapy treatment available. The doctors knew his body could handle it.

Some months later, the doctors were doing the scans and determined that the legions over his body had spread. There was nothing they could do, and he was going to die.

Fortunately, they were wrong.

It turns out that the legions were healing legions… not cancer. He went into full remission, and given the type of cancer he had, that was in and of itself a miracle.

Not only that, he lived life as a miracle. I could see a change in him; a renewed spirit… a reverence for his time hear on Earth. His relationships deepened, his smile broadened, and his heart expanded even further.

He stayed in remission for about a year before the cancer came back more aggressively than before. It was only a few months before he was almost completely incapacitated and confined to his bed. Even then, when I talked with him it was clear he understood everything I was saying and that he was grateful for the presence of all who visited. He couldn’t speak with his mouth, but his eyes told me he was still there.

On the day he died, my family was with him. I was inches away, holding his arm, connected during his last breaths. While I don’t ever wish the kind of painful death he experienced, I am grateful to have been with him as he passed.

10 years later I reflect further…

Almost everybody I know has lost a loved one due to cancer. Friends, siblings, parents, grandparents, and even their children. My story is not a strange one, it’s not even unique. It’s surprisingly common.

And I wish I knew then what I know now. I wonder if he might have been saved if the pharmaceutical industries weren’t so selfish and profit-driven.

See, it turns out there’s been available and ~effective~ NONTOXIC cures for cancer for decades. And while some of them are holistic or spirituality based, very few have the backing of scientific, peer-reviewed studies.

That has changed.

Today you have a chance to make a difference and help this information reach a larger audience.

Back in the 1970’s, Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski discovered ‘antineoplastons’ that attack the harmful cancer cells while leaving healthy cells intact. Because of that, antineoplastons have ZERO side-effects, unlike the toxic chemotherapy and radiation treatments that are carcinogenic, destroy the body, and often cause cancer themselves.

In fact, Dr. Burzynski is the first scientist in the history of medicine to cure a brainstem glioma cancer with a 30-50% cure rate, and his research is fully endorsed by Dr. Julian Whitaker. (if you know that name, you know that means something)

There are billions of dollars invested in cancer pharmaceutical research, products, and services… which would be likely be ~replaced~ by Dr. Burzynski’s less costly and more effective antineoplaston treatments. To be clear: antineoplastons are still pharmaceutical grade medicine, they’re just not toxic like other cancer treatments.

That’s why certain “unnamed” powers that be have done everything they can in their power to stop Dr. Burzynski’s work from being accepted and used to help heal people. They’ve tried to jail him, take away his medical license, and used many other tactics to delay and ideally stop antineoplastons from ever reaching the public.

And despite all of their best efforts to stop him, they couldn’t. In 2009 Dr. Burzynski completed Phase 2 FDA-supervised clinical trials that have demonstrated the effectiveness of his work.

Now to give you some perspective…

Big pharmaceutical companies can get new drugs approved by the FDA sometimes within a few months. Dr. Burzynski has been trying for nearly 30 years.

Don’t tell me there isn’t a conspiracy to keep safe and effective cancer treatments off of the market.

I won’t believe you.

There’s too much money to be made.

That’s why Dr. Burzynski has had to basically do all of his research on a shoestring budget (as compared to the billions that the pharmaceutical industry has access to). While the US government spends on war and supports dirty energy like coal and oil, it cuts education and public benefits and won’t allow even a single CENT to go towards Dr. Burzynski’s research.

That’s insane.

Imagine what further developments in cancer cure research could be made if he was left unhindered to continue this without harassment… and perhaps even received just 1% of the funding that is currently spent on pharmaceutical cancer research?

Even though Antineoplastons are in FDA-authorized clinical trials, most oncologists refuse to even acknowledge this clinical trial option to their patients. Doing so is highly unethical. Discriminating against one clinical trial option as invalid – it is the same as saying all FDA clinical trials are invalid. Not a single drug on the market today made it to public without a series of FDA – authorized clinical trials. An FDA clinical trial – is an FDA clinical trial, yet in regards to this, it seems the Hippocratic Oath is something to be “negotiable” in the eyes of most oncologists.






Together we can make a difference and help more people heal from cancer with this non-toxic cancer treatment. People have tried to defraud Dr. Burzynski, they’ve tried to persecute him like the witch hunts, false information is spread about his work being a scam to try and deter people from discovering antineoplastons…

While it seems this is an obvious thing, the truth is that many of your decisions are not made in alignment with who and what you are.

Too many people take “shortcuts” in their lives (myself sometimes included), and these shortcuts have the unintended effect of actually holding you back instead of propelling you forward into your desired life outcome.

And the last major insight that I really appreciated was how he shared why many approaches to “healing your past” actually limit you from living presently and abundantly. Energy Management Tips for People Who Are Overstressed Or Tired

Our culture is in overdrive and it’s a challenge not to get run over. If we feel that we are in charge at the wheel, it’s a challenge to keep the energy balance in our favor. We need to be sure that energy boosters outweigh energy drainers and that the sheer quantity of what we take on stays in check.

This blog post is about keeping your energy balance in the positive. First, we’ll remind ourselves about well-known energy boosters and energy drainers, then we’ll talk about how boosters can become drainers. Finally, we’ll talk about energy management–how to be masters of our energy rather than victims of circumstance.

What are energy boosters?

Energy boosters are actions that create an overall positive energy balance. In other words, after we perform energy boosting activities we have more energy. Some obvious energy boosters are:

  • Eating healthy foods and supplements (especially lean proteins and fresh fruits and vegetables)
  • Drinking sufficient water to stay hydrated (on average 64 fluid ounces per day depending upon body weight)
  • Getting sufficient sleep (for most people 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 hours are required on a regular basis)
  • Moderate exercise (aerobic exercise, strength training, and stretching in varying combinations depending on your goals, 3-7 times per week)
  • Meditation (15-30 minutes a day reduces tension holding patterns, increases circulation and oxygen uptake, and increases positive brain chemistry, among many other benefits)
  • Doing what we love ( when we participate in activities we enjoy, we increase our enthusiasm and energy level)

What are energy drainers?

Energy drainers consume more energy than they provide. We feel more tired when we do these things consistently or over a long period of time. Some common energy drainers are:

  • Eating excess sugars and starchy carbohydrates (excess sugars and carbs put us on an energy rollercoaster)
  • Drinking excessive amounts of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages (these lead to de-hydration)
  • Smoking (reduces oxygen uptake, among other negative effects)
  • Insufficient sleep (our body needs sleep for physical, emotional, and mental recovery)
  • Being sedentary (the body is made to move and requires physical activity for oxygen and nutrient delivery, toxin removal, and to function properly)
  • Overworking (non-stop and excessive activity leads to stress and adrenal exhaustion)
  • Doing activities because we feel forced to, not because we enjoy them.

How boosters become drainers

When we do anything in excess, it can become a drainer instead of a booster. If we overexercise, overeat, oversleep, or overdo activity without breaks or rest, these activities can exhaust us rather than energize us. The key then is to become a master of managing our energy.

Energy management begins when we acknowledge that we are in charge of our lives. We shift from viewing ourselves as victims of the circumstances that surround us to seeing ourselves as active participants in the creation of our lives. We are largely responsible for our life circumstances and we can create a positive energy balance by the choices we make. We need to prioritize. Only allow things on your schedule that are trully of value to you and the care of those around you. Reduce or eliminate anything that is not a priority or an energy booster.

The key to avoiding overstress and fatigue is to become the master of your energy, rather than the victim of circumstances.

Take a look at your day and your weeks in terms of energy balance. Are you including some or all of the energy boosters listed above? Are you limiting your energy drainers? Are you conscious of taking appropriate breaks? Is there anything that is not a priority in your life that you are giving too much energy too? Are you passively accepting negative circumstances, rather than actively creating what you want?
